A Doorkeeper

While being in Sacramento for a little over a year, God’s choice of temporal employment for the time being is that of part time janitorial duties for Immanuel Baptist Church of which Dianna and I are now members. This allows for our temporal needs to be met, and the freedom to be and to do a number of other things we trust and pray will be used for the advancement and the glory of His kingdom. While contemplating this position in relation to other possibilities of employment and much more the purposes of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the following came to mind.

A doorkeeper in the house of my God
Is where I would rather be
Than dwell in the richest palace
This present world has to offer me.

For God has a plan; His place in this world
Is to take now the lowest seat
And humility is the place where we see
God is Just, He is Right, He will meet

Every petition that to Him we make
With honest integrity He only can give,
Delighting in mercy to make us like Jesus
That we for His infinite glory shall live.

Oh what a wonder as children of God
That we are made to be kings
And priests of our Father now hidden in Jesus
As grace upon grace to us brings

The sweet understanding of what He has done
By His blood and His Spirit to come
For strength every day as He leads the way
As the depths of our heart He doth plumb

To show us the things by His Word that remain
To count as but ashes and dross
And trust in His power by faith to believe
These too have been nailed to the cross.

Oh the infinite love and the patience He shows
Within us until He does form
The things which our Savior did ask for His own
Then went to the garden that morn.

As He sweat drops of blood and in agony cried
“Not my will” but Thine only be done.
God answered by pouring the wrath we deserved
On His only begotten loved Son.

Oh how can we measure the infinite gain
That for us He bought on that day?
For words cannot tell, but with Him we dwell
In answer for which He did pray.

So serve Him with gladness regardless what others
May think of your earthly position,
For Christ is exalted, as now with all joy
He Is our one goal and ambition.
